Right after Carol posted the third-highest per-theater average of 2015 in its opening weekend, the Weinstein Company has issued a new dialogue-free trailer for the Oscar contender. It’s 1950s New York, and twentysomething Therese (Rooney Mara) is working retail while dreaming of something more. Enter Carol (Cate Blanchett), an older woman trapped in a loveless marriage, and smouldering feelings boil over. Kyle Chandler plays Carol’s husband, who starts to question her fitness as a mother. Sarah Paulson plays Carol’s best friend, and Jake Lacy and Cory Michael Smith also star in the film by Todd Haynes, who directs from a script by Phyllis Nagy based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel The Price Of Salt.
'Carol' Very Seductive In Debut, 'Legend' Solid But Iffy; 'Brooklyn' & 'Spotlight' Remain Solid: Specialty B.O.
Carol has had Oscar buzz since it wowed Cannes in its premiere in May. TWC confirmed in September that it would be campaigning Blanchett for Best Actress and Mara as Supporting, despite the former also being in the awards pictures for her lead turn in Truth. Have a look at the new trailer above, and tell us what you think. Meanwhile, TWC also broke out a pair of clips from the films today. Check them out here:
