EXCLUSIVE: Broad Green has closed a deal to option Julie Klausner’s memoir I Don’t Care About Your Band. Klausner, who created, wrote and starred in Hulu series Difficult People, is attached to co-write the script. The possibility remains open for Klausner to star in as well, although nothing has yet been decided on that front.
The book is about a woman in her twenties with vulnerability and no sexual guilt, who dates all the wrong men, and tries to survive a generation of guys who know more about love songs than love. Lauren McCarthy is overseeing the project for Broad Green Pictures.
Klausner is currently writing the second season of Difficult People, which is produced by Amy Poehler. In addition, she serves as co-exec producer on TruTV’s Billy On The Street. Klausner is repped by WME, Avalon and Scott Mendel.
Klausner is the latest in a golden generation of whip-smart comediennes articulating their lives through razor sharp comedy and social commentary, along with the likes of Lena Dunham, Amy Schumer, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.
Broad Green has shown ambitious and upmarket tastes in recent months, taking a stake in the highly regarded David Garrett’s sales and finance banner Mister Smith and inking a multi-picture deal with Terrence Malick.
