NBCUniversal may be losing an SVP Litigation, but Universal Filmed Entertainment Group is gaining its second top-tier legal executive in less than six months. Shifting over to Jeff Shell’s crew, David Burg has been promoted to SVP, Associate General Counsel. The former Weissmann, Wolff, Bergman, Coleman, Grodin & Evall attorney will report directly to UFEG General Counsel Clarissa Weirick – who joined the company from nearly two decades at Warner Bros in July of this year.
“David has been a valued partner to the Filmed Entertainment Group for many years, providing strategic counsel on a wide range of issues,” Weirick said today. “His legal experience and institutional knowledge of our studio and the industry landscape will be a great asset to our legal team as the studio builds on 2015’s unprecedented success.”
Burg and Weirick have a somewhat common history, with the former having Warner Bros as a major litigation client when he was at WWBCG & E. After 13-years at the firm, Burg joined NBCUniversal almost a decade ago. Once he formally steps into his new gig next week, Burg will be charged with helping to guide legal strategy and risk mitigation to Universal’s attorneys and to execs in the film group.
