EXCLUSIVE: 21 Laps and 3311 have teamed to make the coming-of-age comedy Henry The Second, a script by Tripper Clancy that they hope to put in production next summer. Pic will be financed by 3311, which previously teamed with Shawn Levy’s shingle on the Fox Searchlight wedding comedy Table 19. That Jeffrey Blitz-directed film is in post-production, starring Anna Kendrick, Craig Robinson, Lisa Kudrow, Stephen Merchant, Tony Revolori, June Squibb, Wyatt Russell and Amanda Crew.
Clancy came up in the Fox writing program where his script The Ambassadors is in development, and has since worked on projects with Columbia, Hasbro and Paramount Animation. Henry The Second follows a teenage outcast (Henry) who meets his estranged, world-class spy father (Hank). Henry idolizes his dad, who comes back to town ready to teach Henry how to lie, manipulate and blackmail his way to the top of the social hierarchy. Clancy is repped by UTA and Bender/Spink.
“Tripper’s script is a very strong blend of the teen edge and angst of Risky Business with the central dual generation relationship of About A Boy,” said 21 Laps Dan Cohen. Said 3311’s Jen Dana: “We knew after the first read that we wanted to be involved in bringing his script to life and are thrilled to partner again with the team at 21 Laps.”
Production just began on the 21 Laps-produced New Line comedy Fist Fight and the Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things. 21 laps is in pre-production on John Hamburg’s Fox comedy Why Him? with Bryan Cranston and James Franco, and the company is in post-production on Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi thriller Story Of Your Life with Amy Adams.
3311 recently sold Mr. Right to Focus World after it premiered as the closing film of last month’s Toronto Film Festival.
