Hasbro Chief Talks Transformers 5 Through 8 At MIPjunior

Back in September, we told you about the writers room put together by Hasbro to hash out the next several years of the Transformers franchise. The group wrapped after three months with what was said at the time to be ideas for 5 possible new films, in addition to numerous other spinoffs on various media. Shocking no one, least of all Hasbro shareholders enjoying the billions generated by the series, those movies are probably going to be made. Hasbro President Stephen J. Davis confirmed it yesterday during a Q&A following his keynote speech at MIPCOM spinoff MIPJunior. Telling attendees that the writers “plotted out the next 10 years of Transformers, he added that watchers of all things Transformers should “stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8.” Skip to 13:50 in the video for the pertinent part.

Before we get too excited, this doesn’t mean things are in motion just yet. Michael Bay, who directed the first four Transformers films, confirmed in September that nothing is official, including whether or not he’ll direct. But, he said at the time, he and Transformers executive producer Steven Spielberg are talking things over.

The writers meeting, headed up by Akiva Goldsman, reportedly saw the participating writers paid in the low seven figures for their time. Chump change compared to the money the Autobots and Decepticons make, but money well spent according to all involved. Among those who took part were Ken Nolan (Black hawk Down), Christina Hodson and Lindsey Beer, Barrer & Ferrari, Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Zak Penn (previously linked to Pacific Rim 2), Jeff Pinkner, Steven DeKnight (Spartacus creator and Daredevil showrunner), and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
