Director Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Rocky) and leading man Steven Pasquale (FX’s Rescue Me, The Bridges Of Madison County) will join forces in a revival of the Alfred Uhry/Robert Waldman musical about a Mississippi rogue, based on the Eudora Welty story. The 1975 Broadway premiere, with its signature bluegrass-inflected score, launched the careers of Kevin Kline and Patti LuPone.
The Roundabout Theatre Company production, the show’s first New York revival, is being underwritten (“enhanced” in the parlance of nonprofit theater deals with commercial producers) by Daryl Roth (Kinky Boots) and will run at the Roundabout’s main off-Broadway venue, the Laura Pels Theatre. The production is slated to begin performances on February 18, 2016 and open March 13. The limited run will end on May 29.
Pasquale will play gentleman thief Jamie Lockhart, who falls for the daughter of a wealthy land owner. The creative team for the revival will include Connor Gallagher (choreography), Donyale Werle (sets), Emily Rebholz (costumes), Howell Binkley (lights) and Darron L. West (sound).
