With exactly two months to go before the great return to a galaxy far, far away, the final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiered during halftime of ESPN’s Monday Night Football tonight. Will the canny move to pair marketing for Star Wars with America’s favorite sport result in strong-with-the-Force ratings for Disney’s ESPN ? Probably, but we’re too busy making lightsaber noises and furiously buying movie tickets to pay attention.
The new clip follows the official one-sheet poster released Sunday, and just like said poster it is conspicuously lacking in Jedi Knights named Luke Skywalker. Aside from the grizzled beard Mark Hamill grew for his appearance in The Force Awakens, next to nothing is known about just what he does or how long he is in the film. I won’t repeat rumors here, but suffice it to say I’m hoping some of them turn out to be true.

As you might have heard, Disney will release the seventh film in the Star Wars canon on December 18. J.J. Abrams is directing from a script he wrote with Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew are returning from George Lucas’ original trilogy alongside franchise rookies including Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domnhall Gleeson and Max Von Sydow.
