Universal Pictures has announced that the next collaboration between director M. Night Shyamalan and Blumhouse Productions, Split, will open January 20, 2017. Shyamalan released his $5M indie-budgeted The Visit via Blumhouse and Universal last month, generating $89.3M worldwide. Split takes over the previously announced Untitled Blumhouse Productions title on Uni’s schedule, which was dated to be released on January 27, 2017. Split is the only release dated on the calendar for the weekend of January 20-22, 2017, the frame after the MLK Jr. holiday stretch.
James McAvoy headlines the supernatural suspense thriller, which co-stars Anya Taylor Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. Shyamalan and Jason Blum are reuniting with their Visit team on this title, working with producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.
