Marc Webb, coming off last season when two pilots directed and executive produced by him — CBS drama Limitless and Showtime/the CW comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend — went to series, has set up another drama project at CBS through CBS TV Studios.
Smoke & Mirrors, written/executive produced by NCIS: Los Angeles co-executive producer Dave Kalstein, centers on a mysterious detective in the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division, a contemporary Houdini-like character who uses her knowledge of deception and misdirection to solve seemingly impossible crimes committed by criminal masterminds. Webb is set to direct and executive produce under the overall deal with CBS Studios he inked in June. Also executive producing are Bard Dorros, Michael Sugar and Alex Goldstone of Anonymous Content (True Detective, Mr. Robot). Comic book artist/martial arts master Rafael Kayanan, who works as fight choreographer on NCIS: LA, will serve as producer.
Webb is an executive producer on Limitless, recently given a full-season order, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which received a pickup for backup scripts. Kalstein, Webb and Rafael Kayanan are repped by Anonymous Content and CAA.
