Just more than a month into the fall season, things are looking pretty luxurious for ABC among upscale viewers in the key demo. Excluding sports programming, the Disney-owned network is topping its Big 4 competitors by double digits in the adults 18-49 demo in households with incomes of over $100,000 and $200,000. With Modern Family (No. 2), Scandal (No. 4), Grey’s Anatomy (No. 5), black-ish (No. 7) and How To Get Away With Murder (No. 10), ABC also has more series in the top 10 among the $100K crowd than another other net — and three executive produced by Shonda Rhimes. With five shows in the Top 10 in the $200K demo audience — again with a Shondaland trio — ABC edged NBC to hold the top spot there, too. (See the charts below.)
If sports is factored in to the September 21-October 25 period, it’s a whole different ballgame — or rather football game. NBC, aka home of Sunday Night Football, is No. 1 with a 3.34 rating in the key demo in households making more than $100,000. Helped by their second year of Thursday Night Football, CBS is second with a 2.46 rating, while NFL-less ABC is third with a 1.91 and Fox coming up quick with a 1.34. Of course, though football is on ESPN and not ABC now, the net will have the NBA playoffs next year and be in the sports game themselves. CBS, meanwhile, has the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl coming up in 2016.
NBC leads among the 18-49 demo overall this season so far with a 2.8/9 rating, with CBS a close second (2.5/9), ABC third (2.1/7) and Fox fourth (1.9/6). In total viewers, CBS is tops with 11.68 million. NBC has 9.49 million, ABC has 7.74 million and Fox 5.35 million.
