ABC summer staple Rookie Blue is turning in its badge and gun as the Toronto-set cop series is ending after six seasons.
A Canadian production of IFC Films and eOne, Rookie Blue started off focusing on the personal and professional lives of five rookie cops in the 15th Division. As the series progressed, they still felt like rookies despite their several years on the job. The Season 6 finale, which aired September 3 on ABC and served as the series finale, saw the wedding of Officer Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym) and Detective Sam Swarek (Ben Bass). She had arrested him in the pilot episode, ruining Swarek’s eight months of undercover work. The cast also included Gregory Smith, Charlotte Sullivan, Enuka Okuma, Travis Milne, Peter Mooney, Priscilla Faia, Matt Gordon and Rachael Ancheril.
Executive producers include Ilana Frank, Tassie Cameron, Russ Cochrane, David Wellington and John Morayniss. Production company Shaw Media said today that is partnering with Frank’s ICF Films and eOne — which distributed Rookie Blue internationally — on a new project, but no details were announced. The show aired on Global in Canada.
“The success of Rookie Blue is a testament not only to the extremely talented team of Ilana Frank, Tassie Cameron, David Wellington and studio Entertainment One. but the electrifying cast that has resonated with legions of fans that have followed the show since Season 1,” said Christine Shipton, SVP and Chief Creative Officer at Shaw Media. “After six seasons the series reached a natural conclusion, and this season’s finale was the perfect wrap-up for both our rookies and for fans.”
