The first film in Adam Sandler’s four picture deal with Netflix is set to ride into town December 11, and so it goes that Netflix has released the official trailer for The Ridiculous Six. Charting territory similar to Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West, the comedy Western aims to satirize Western tropes and specific Western films, most notably The Magnificent Seven. The story follows outlaw Tommy ‘White Knife’ Stockburn (Sandler), an orphan raised by Native Americans who teams up with his five long lost brothers to rescue their outlaw father. Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, and Luke Wilson play his brothers with Nick Nolte as their father, Frank.
The film was briefly at the center of controversy after several Native American actors walked off set in protest of several of the film’s jokes. Netflix, as well as several Native American actors who remained on set, defended the film however, and production was not affected. The trailer certainly presents a more lighthearted joke fest than the controversy suggested. The ensemble cast is rounded out by Will Forte, Steve Buscemi, Steve Zahn, Nick Swardson, Chris Parnell, Jon Lovitz, Whitney Cummings, Norm MacDonald, with Blake Shelton (channeling Kurt Russell) as Wyatt Earp, Vanilla Ice as Mark Twain, among many others. Adam Sandler and Allen Covert produced. Frank Coraci directs from a script written by Tim Herlihy and Sandler.
