EXCLUSIVE: After Gary Graham turned in a bang-up reboot of I Am Legend, Warner Bros has hired the scribe to adapt Railhead, the Philip Reeve novel that has Doug Liman attached to direct and produce with his Hypnotic partner Dave Bartis, and Denise DiNovi and Allison Greenspan. The novel is set in a futuristic world where trains run through space via portals and a petty thief hired to steal an object sets off on an adventure that could shake the galaxy to its core. Warner Bros acquired it last year for Liman, who’s on a short list with Shane Black and a couple others to direct Channing Tatum in Gambit at Fox. Chantal Nong and Julia Spiro overseeing for Warner Bros.
Railhead was published this fall by Oxford Press. Liman is also in nascent discussions to do another installment of Edge Of Tomorrow at Warner Bros with Tom Cruise.
The scribe first got on the studio radar with his spec A Garden At The End Of The World. At the time, he was selling iPhones in Manhattan, and was working at the Apple store in midtown Manhattan when he posted his script on the Black List website. That got him representation with CAA and manager Brooklyn Weaver, and they helped him make a deal with Warner Bros and the studio tapped him to retrofit that script into the I Am Legend reboot. He, Liman, Hypnotic and DiNovi are repped by CAA, and the scribe’s managed by Weaver and lawyered by Jeff Frankel.
