In his first appointment since becoming president of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures Entertainment, Josh Greenstein has hired Louise Chater as executive vice president, International Strategy & Research overseeing all international theatrical market research efforts for the studio. She will report to international marketing chief Michael Horn and collaborate closely with John Restall, who oversees domestic market research. The post is significant, given the push that Sony is making internationally.
In April of this year, Sanford Panitch was hired as Sony’s President of International Film & Television which was a newly created post to help the studio jumpstart a business generating global film and television co-productions and local-language fare for theaters and TV.
Chater joins SPE following two years at Clarius Entertainment, where she oversaw the film company’s strategy, acquisitions, and slate development. Prior to that, she led the Walt Disney Motion Picture global research division, overseeing worldwide research on titles such as Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Cars 2, The Muppets, The Help, War Horse, Wreck-It Ralph, and The Avengers.
“Louise has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience in the international marketplace. Her strategic global view will be a key asset in helping us customize our campaigns throughout the world,” said Greenstein.
For ten years before her stint at Disney, she was the CEO of First Movies International, a consultancy company that provided domestic and international strategy and research for all of the major studios and a host of independent distributors and production companies in the UK and Europe.
