After becoming the third-highest grossing film of all-time with $1.6B worldwide, Jurassic World is poised to roll over home entertainment records, becoming not only Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s biggest release ever, but the highest-selling Blu-ray and DVD title of 2015 as well as the industry’s biggest live-action Blu-ray title of all-time.
In its first week of release, Jurassic World sold nearly 3M units on Blue-ray and DVD, outselling this year’s previous top competitive title debut by 25% and outstripping the first week 2.5M sales racked up by Furious 7 back in September. Across all digital and physical formats, Jurassic World has generated $82.6M in consumer spend, besting Furious 7‘s $52.5M first week home entertainment revenue. The home entertainment revenue for the Colin Trevorrow-directed film currently reps 13% of its $651.7M domestic B.O. Jurassic World home entertainment formats include Digital HD, 3-D Blu-ray™, Blu-ray™, DVD and On Demand. Jurassic World carried an estimated production cost of $150M with stateside TV ad spend at $25M per iSpotTV.
Said UPHE President Eddie Cunningham in a statement, “Jurassic World’s record-breaking home entertainment debut, alongside Furious 7’s recent spectacular performance, squarely reinforces the ever-robust and enduring consumer demand to own great content, both physically and digitally.”
