UPDATED with rep statement: Production has been scrapped for the week on the ABC Family comedy Baby Daddy after its star was burned in a Halloween party accident. Jean-Luc Bilodeau is recovering in a hospital after being burned on his extremities Saturday during a holiday celebration thrown by his co-star Tahj Mowry. Media reports say he was wearing an alpaca costume with cotton balls glued on.
“Jean-Luc’s costume caught on fire when he got too close to an open flame and he suffered burns to his legs and arms,” his rep said in a statement. “From what we understand, it was no one’s fault and this was merely a freak accident. Per his doctor, he is expected to make a full recovery. While this accident is extremely unfortunate, it serves as a reminder that Halloween costumes and Halloween make-up can be extremely dangerous and flammable. Please exercise precautions this season and be mindful of what you are putting on your body and face.”
We hear that the actor is in good spirits and has been getting visits from castmates. The series has a scheduled production hiatus next week.
“Jean-Luc Bilodeau suffered a non-life-threatening injury on Saturday night,” ABC Family told Deadline. “He is expected to make a full recovery. The Baby Daddy production schedule is being rearranged to accommodate him.”
The series’ Season 5 premiere will air as scheduled February 3 on Freeform, the new moniker for ABC Family that goes into effect in January. Bilodeau stars in Baby Daddy as a guy in his early 20s living the bachelor life in New York City until an ex-girlfriend leaves a baby girl left on his doorstep. Along with Mowry, the cast also includes Derek Theler, Melissa Peterman and Chelsea Kane.
