UPDATE: Fox Television Stations have extended the MyNetworkTV programming service for two more years, through the 2017-18 season, which is will be the net’s 12th. While this may be considered a formality between the two long-time partners — Fox TV Stations also gave the network a two-year pickup in fall 2013 — this time the renewal carries an additional significance. It comes amidst tense carriage negotiations between the CW parents CBS and Warner Bros. and the network’s leading affiliate group, Tribune, which owns the CW stations in the Top 3 markets. The parties’ current affiliate agreement is up next summer, and both sides had been working on contingency plans if a new deal is not reached. Fox TV Stations’ MyNetworkTV stations had been one possibility as they include the top 3 markets in the country, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. I hear the MyNetworkTV renewal does not preclude Fox TV Stations from possibly taking in the CW programming in top markets if it becomes available . The CW parent companies, which I hear continue to be in conversations with Fox TV Stations, also have been working on other scenarios, and CBS does have a duopoly station in the No.2 market Los Angeles.
With a lineup of all off-network dramas Monday through Friday, MyNetworkTV airs on the Fox Television Stations in New York (WWOR My9), Los Angeles (KCOP My13), and Chicago (WPWR My50). Additional markets include Dallas (KDFI My27), D.C. (WDCA My20), Houston (KTXH My20), Phoenix (KUTP My45), Minneapolis (WFTC My29), Orlando (WRBW My65), and Charlotte (WMYT MyTV12).
