A 15-year Discovery Communications veteran, Darcy Tomlin most recently served as senior director of programming with U.S. brand Velocity. The exec has now been named vice president of Discovery Networks International Programming and Operations, it was announced today by Rosemary Newell, SVP of International Programming and Operations, to whom she will report. This is the latest executive move at DNI following Marjorie Kaplan’s August appointment to the newly-created post of President of Content, which was followed this month by the exit of VP and CCO Phil Craig.
Tomlin, who has been responsible for developing the strategic scheduling of day-to-day programming, stunts, specials and Upfront planning for automotive network Velocity, is now returning to Discovery’s international business where she previously held a programming and operational role and helped launch the TLC brand around the world.
In her new role within Discovery’s International Content Group, she will be “a key leader” in managing the thousands of hours of shared content from the U.S. portfolio of networks, and maintain relationships with programming teams in the U.S. and around the world. She will also have day-to-day operational oversight related to content investment and support Newell in overall strategic planning and analysis around the procurement and usage of shared content within the DNI portfolio. Tomlin will be based in Discovery’s global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.
During the course of Tomlin’s career at Discovery, she previously held a programming position in the Latin America division working on the regional Discovery Channel and Animal Planet brands, as well as the Home & Health and Travel & Living brands.
