UPDATED, 2:46PM: Given the current hectic adult-demo pic marketplace, the Weinstein Company has opted to just keep its Bradley Cooper chef dramedy Burnt a wide release on October 30 without a limited debut this coming weekend. The competition among adult titles will calm down a tad by then, with Bridge Of Spies going into its third weekend and Steve Jobs in its “second” wide weekend (technically fourth frame). Burnt will face off with two other October 30 wide releases: Warner Bros’ Sandra Bullock-Billy Bob Thornton political comedy Our Brand Is Crisis and Paramount’s Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.
PREVIOUSLY, Oct. 7: Weinstein Co. will start feeding audiences its Bradley Cooper-Sienna Miller chef dramedy Burnt on October 23 in a limited release before going wide on October 30. Burnt always had that October 23 date, but it’s an insane weekend to go wide with four other entries carving up demos: There’s Universal/Blumhouse’s Jem And The Holograms, Lionsgate’s The Last Witch Hunter, Paramount’s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Open Road’s Rock The Kasbah.
Platforming at this time of year is never a bad thing. This season in particular is crowded with awards season fare such as Sicario, The Walk, Black Mass…the list goes on. In order to maintain their hot buzz and build their legs, films such as Universal’s Steve Jobs and Legend are going the limited route before going wide.
