Oil industry drama Boomtown has expanded drilling operations, adding newcomer Tyler Riggs, Boyd Holbrook (Narcos), Rachel Brosnahan (House Of Cards), and Jocelin Donahue (Knight Of Cups) to the cast. Set in the Williston, North Dakota region that has seen explosive growth thanks to dramatically increased oil production, the film follows John Turner, (Riggs) a young man who leaves his family behind to take a grueling job in the local oil industry. Along the way, he encounters the struggles experienced by thousands of Americans grasping for the American dream. Donahue plays Turner’s wife and the mother of their infant son; Brosnahan plays Jaime, a bartender in town; Holbrook plays JT’s childhood friend, Dustin.
Boomtown is the first film taking place in the Bakken Formation, a region long known for high amounts of source rock that since 2000 has been a major center of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling. It’s the feature debut of Sabyn Mayfield, who co-wrote the script with David Newbert. Mayfield and Newbert produce, and it’s executive produced by Laray Mayfield, and Thirty Tigers. John Moreland is writing the original score. From Stay Fly LLC, shooting is scheduled to begin on location in North Dakota in November. Riggs is repped by Next Model Management; Holbrook is repped by CAA and LBI Entertainment; Brosnahan was nominated for an Emmy earlier this year in the guest actress category for her work on House of Cards, and is repped by Innovative Artists; Carole Dibo is repped by Talent Management; and Donahue is repped by ICM Partners and The Group Management.
