Actor-singer Becky G is the latest to join the cast of Power Rangers, the Lionsgate and Saban Brands reboot of the franchise. The pic has a January 12, 2017, release date and has been ramping up casting, with Becky G taking on Yellow Ranger. She joins Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger, R.J. Cyler as Blue Ranger and Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger.
Dean Israelite is directing the first in what the studio and Saban hopes will be a franchise based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series, which mixed a group of young actors with climactic action footage culled from the Japanese television show Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. The new film centers on a new group of high school kids who mix their studies and social lives with the mission to save the world.
Eric McCormack is set to star in indie drama Considering Love And Other Magic. The film follows a teenager who, traumatized by her younger brother’s suicide, gets a job tutoring Jasper’s (McCormack) nephew. The pic is written and being directed by Dave Schultz and is shooting in Canada.
The Will & Grace veteran who recently signed with Gersh and is managed by The Coronel Group, is also in talks to star in Negative, directed by Joshua Caldwell for Mar Vista Films. He’s next up on the film side opposite Parker Posey in The Architect.
