Game Of Thrones star Sean Bean will play police inspector John Marlott in the six-part British crime-cum-horror series. Set in 19th century London, The Frankenstein Chronicles tells the story of Marlott, a Thames River detective, hunting down a killer who appears to be assembling humans from mutilated body parts in a copycat twist on the Frankenstein story. When a child’s corpse is discovered during an investigation, Marlott is horrified to discover that it’s in fact a grotesque assembly of human body parts. In classic outlier fashion, his probe takes him into the dangerous, picturesquely crime-ridden London demimonde — and soon sets him at odds with the medical and political establishments.
Anna Maxwell Martin, Charlie Creed Miles, Steven Berkoff and Vanessa Kirby c0-star.
Director and writer Benjamin Ross (The Young Poisoner’s Handbook) and writer Barry Langford (Torte Bluma) are the chief creatives. David Tanner of Rainmark Films produced the show for ITV in the UK. Endemol Shine International is handling global sales. Rainmark’s Tracey Scoffield and Game Of Thrones producer Frank Doelger are executive producers.
“The Frankenstein Chronicles uniquely merges classic elements from both the crime and horror genres, which pairs perfectly with A&E’s growing scripted slate,” said A&E EVP Programming Elaine Frontain Bryant, who negotiated the deal for the channel.
