CBS is making a change on the fall schedule, opting to bring veteran 2 Broke Girls from the bench and push new comedy Angel From Hell starring Jane Lynch.
Holding 2 Broke Girls for midseason for the first time in the show’s history was one of the surprises in CBS’ 2015-16 schedule when it was unveiled in May. That was considered a costly move for producing studio Warner Bros TV as it had 2 Broke Girls‘ syndication rollout slated for September 2015. It helps to launch a broadcast comedy in syndication when it also airs on its original network.
Now the fifth season of 2 Broke Girls, which broke a record for an off-network syndication deal when it sold to TBS, will kick off on November 12 on a new night. As CBS opted to end its Monday comedy block in favor of an all-drama lineup, 2 Broke Girls is relocating to Thursdays, taking over the 9:30 PM slot originally assigned to Angel From Hell.
CBS’ post-football Thursday lineup debuts on November 5, though 2 Broke Girls will premiere a week later to allow more time to promote the show’s return.
The move provides stability for CBS’ Thursday comedy block, which would’ve featured two freshman shows, Life In Pieces and Angel From Hell, both single-camera, something that CBS had never done. With Life In Pieces doing OK but not great behind The Big Bang Theory, CBS is opting to shore up the comedy block with a seasoned multi-camera utility player. Angel From Hell is joining on the midseason bench veteran Mike & Molly and sophomore The Odd Couple.
Here is CBS’ revised post-football Thursday schedule:
