In an editing snafu, the obituary of filmmaker and Monty Python favorite Terry Gilliam was posted briefly on sister publication Variety’s site Tuesday, prompting questions about whether he had passed away. The report was online for a few minutes before the mistake was realized and taken down and the tweet deleted. Gilliam took it in stride and hilariously posted a classic response on social media:
He also tweeted this:
This reminds us of one of the mistaken obituaries published years ago at The Hollywood Reporter about the death of country comedian and Grand Ole Opry icon Minnie Pearl. The correction hilariously stated: “Minnie Pearl is not dead.”
Hey, mistakes happen to all of us — we’ve all hit that publish button rather than save — but Gilliam’s response was too good not to share.
