Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh quietly has put together Mosaic, a movie starring Sharon Stone, for HBO. No one is confirming details on the secret project, but I hear that Mosaic is described as an experimental film which has a tie-in with an app that would help viewers determine its ending. Among other rumored to be starring is Garrett Hedlund. In a carefully crafted statement to Deadline, Soderbergh appears to be alluding to the innovative/interactive nature of his project.
“I believe the good people at HBO are genuinely enthusiastic about Mosaic for two reasons: first, it represents a fresh way of experiencing a story and sharing that experience with others; second, it will require a new Emmy category, and we will be the only eligible nominee,” he said.
Filming on Mosaic is slated to begin next month in Utah. Soderbergh, who is known for taking artistic risks on the feature side, won two Emmys for directing and producing HBO’s Behind The Candelabra and earned another nomination for directing the pilot for his Cinemax series The Knick.
Soderbergh is repped by Anonymous Content; Stone, who toplines TNT drama series Agent X, is with Gersh.
