DRG has acquired international rights to Robert Redford’s docu series, The West, and will be handling sales at Mipcom in October. The 8×60’ series, which is exec produced and presented by Robert Redford, chronicles the dramatic evolution of the American West in the 19th century. Produced by Stephen David Entertainment with Sundance Productions and will air next year on AMC. The series is currently still in production.
The West uses a blend of dramatization and documentary footage along visual effects, to take the audience into the action-packed world of the cowboys, Native Americans, outlaws and gunslingers of the Wild West. Characters covered include Jesse James and Billy the Kid. The series will also include guest contributions from the likes of Ed Harris, Kiefer Sutherland, Kris Kristofferson, Burt Reynolds and James Caan.
Redford, Stephen David (The Men Who Built America) and Laura Michalchyshyn (Death Row Stories) serve as exec producers. The series is directed by Emmy nominated John Ealer (Gold Fever).
DRG’s Mipcom slate includes Honey I Bought The House and Supersized, as well as its catalogue of drama programming including Danny Boyle’s Babylon and Yann Demange’s critically-acclaimed Top Boy. DRG is part of the Nice Entertainment Group, the holding company for the production and distribution arm of Modern Times Group (MTG).
