Carolina Panthers two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Cam Newton has been drafted by the team at Nickelodeon to host I Wanna Be, an adventure docuseries that will follow Newton as he helps make kids’ dreams come true — from landing a gig on Broadway to decorating fancy cakes.
Nickelodeon announced the greenlight today. I Wanna Be — a working title — is planned as a 20-episode series, set to air in 2016 and shooting during the NFL’s off-season. In each episode, Newton helps two kids get their wishes, with assistance from expert mentors. The quarterback takes part in each adventure.
“Time in the spotlight has made me realize the importance of creating positive messages to inspire the next generation,” Newton says. “I’m very passionate about mentoring young people, and this show will be the perfect opportunity to help talented kids get the chance to pursue their dreams.”

Newton won the 2010 Heisman Trophy and was selected by the Panthers as the top overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He broke Peyton Manning’s record for most passing yards in a player’s first two seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 2011 and 2013 seasons.
I Wanna Be is produced by Magical Elves (Project Greenlight, Top Chef) with Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz and Newton serving as executive producers.
