Signs point to Elizabeth Reaser. The actress is joining Annalise Basso in Ouija 2, the sequel to last year’s micro-budgeted Halloween horror film that ended up making $102.5M worldwide via Universal Pictures. The next installment, also based on the iconic board game from Hasbro, will also debut for Halloween 2016, specifically October 21. The project will be directed by Mike Flanagan, who will co-write the screenplay with Jeff Howard (Somnia, I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot).
Reaser was recently seen in the SXSW indies Hello, My Name Is Doris directed by Michael Showalter and One & Two directed by Andrew Droz Palermo. She also played opposite Jon Hamm in the final season of AMC’s Mad Men as the hard-boiled diner waitress Diana.
Ouija 2 will be produced by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form for Platinum Dunes, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions and Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis from Hasbro. Intrepid Pictures’ Trevor Macy, Flanagan’s frequent collaborator, has joined the film in a producer capacity.
Universal’s director of development Sara Scott will oversee the project for the studio.
Reaser is repped by UTA and attorney Mitch Smelkinson at Stone Meyer.
