The position of Chairman of NBCUniversal International Group and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises is a new one for the company. In addition to expanding the universe of Cesar Conde, it means that Joe Uva moves from his position as Chairman of Hispanic Enterprises and Content to an adviser on NBC Deportes’ move from Florida to the NBC Sports Group facility in Stamford, CT.
Conde joined NBCU in 2013, jumping from Univision, where he had been President. In the change announced today, which takes effect on October 12, he’ll pick up oversight of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, which includes the Telemundo Network, NBC Universo Cable Network, Telemundo International, Telemundo Local Stations, Telemundo Digital Media and Emerging Business and NBC Deportes.
“Telemundo is one of the fastest-growing parts of our company and an important area of focus for us,” says NBCU chief Steve Burke, to whom Conde will report. “I am confident that Cesar’s deep knowledge of the business and keen understanding of the changing marketplace make him the right leader to help build on its strong momentum.”
Burke also praised Uva, who had been Univision’s CEO until 2011 when he joined NBCU, for helping Telemundo. It “significantly closed the ratings gap with Univision and has consistently been No. 1 during the important 10 PM time period.” Burke says that Uva is on board with the change and agreed to stay, at the NBCU CEO’s request, to help with the NBC Deportes move.
Before Conde moved to Univision, he had been with Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Salomon Smith Barney and in 2002-03 was a White House Fellow for Secretary of State Colin Powell.
