HBO Films has teamed with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for Thirst, a movie set against the backdrop of the global water crisis. The project, now in development, will be written by Charles Leavitt (In the Heart of the Sea) and directed by Elliott Lester (Nightingale). Damon and Affleck executive produce alongside Lester, Josh Weinstock, Jennifer Todd and Drew Vinton. Leavitt and Margaret Chernin co-executive produce.
“Both Elliott and Chuck are creative forces who bring an extraordinary vision to the material and we are very excited to be a part of it,” Damon and Affleck said.
Thirst expands Damon and Affleck’s relationship with HBO where they executive produce a revival of their cult filmmaking reality series Project Greenlight. “We are extremely pleased to continue our collaboration with Matt and Ben,” HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said. “As two of today’s most gifted filmmakers, they are once again using their cinematic talents to bring awareness to this pressing global issue.”
Lester and Weinstock also recently worked with HBO on the Emmy-nominated Nightingale.
