Mark Burnett is back as executive producer of People’s Choice Awards for 2016 on CBS. This particular trophy show bills itself as the kick-off to the 2016 awards show season, broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Wednesday, January 6, 2016, from 9-11 PM ET; it will be delayed to the West Coast, bucking the trend to broadcast awards shows live across the country.
It’s Burnett’s seventh year EP-ing the broadcast of the ceremony, which is now in its 42nd year. Today’s news is not such a surprise, given that The People’s Choice Awards, and digital, mobile and social extensions of the brand are owned by Procter & Gamble, and produced by United Artist Media Group, a joint venture among MGM, Mark Burnett, Roma Downey and Hearst Corporation.
The People’s Choice Awards’ hook is that it allows fans to pick the nominees and winners across movies, music and television. Voting to determine the nominees begins Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 10 AM ET through Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 11:50 PM ET. The nominations will be announced on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 and voting to determine the winners will remain open until Thursday, December 3, 2015. Except for the voting in the categories of Favorite New TV Comedy and Drama, which will begin Friday, December 4, 2015 and run throughout the first hour of the trophy-show broadcast.
Jane Mun and Fred Nelson will serve as Executive Producers with Burnett, with Kimmie H. Kim as Co-Executive Producer of the telecast.
