Maciek Malish, a sound editor who won two Emmys for The X-Files and earned four noms for Lost, died Saturday evening after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Moorpark, CA. He was 53. Motorcyclist Jesse Cushman, 43, of Fillmore, also was killed in the accident.
Among Malish’s many television credits are The Tick, Millennium, NCIS: Los Angeles, Undressed, Person Of Interest and The Wonder Years, among many others. He had been working on HBO’s upcoming TV series remake of Westworld. Over his career, he was nominated for nine Primetime Emmys, winning twice for X-Files, and one Daytime Emmy. He was nominated for nine Motion Picture Sound Editors awards, winning once for Lost and once for Noriega: God’s Favorite.
The accident occurred along Moorpark Road near Tierra Rejada Road, when Malish, a Simi Valley resident, was struck by a silver Saturn as the driver headed southbound. After hitting Malish, the driver reportedly swerved into the northbound traffic lanes, hitting Cushman head-on. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was identified as a 26-year-old Camarillo woman; California Highway Patrol is still investigating.
Malish is survived by his wife Elizabeth and stepson Adam Pivovar.
