UPDATE,2:22 PM: If you are trying to go north on the 405 right now you know that Air Force 2 has landed at LAX and Vice-President Joe Biden is on the move – because the freeway and parts of Santa Monica Blvd are closed down.
After flying into Anaheim earlier today from D.C. to give a speech, the Veep and maybe 2016 Presidential candidate is heading to downtown to speak at the U.S.-China Climate Leaders Summit. That means the wide-spread road closures have gone into effect for today and tomorrow. Biden will be staying overnight in L.A., with some informal chats with some big buck bundlers we hear, before flying out to the Motor City for more speeches on Thursday.(UPDATE, 9:30 PM: After his day of speeches and side meetings, the Veep had dinner at L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s official residence in Hancock Park. Among the other guests were Showtime chief David Nevins, entertainment lawyer and police commissioner Matthew Johnson and ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel. After the dinner Biden headed over to his hotel in Beverly Hills.)
Check out the latest road closure info from the LAPD below.
PREVIOUS, 6:06 AM: If you’re a political junkie or fan of theatre of the absurd, then undoubtedly your attention is on Donald Trump and the others at the Republican debate tonight from the Reagan Presidential Library or Hillary Clinton’s appearance on The Tonight Show. However, if you’re a Los Angeles driver, you’re probably going to be thinking a lot about Joe Biden today.
The Vice-President is back in town and like his last visit here in late July, expect a lot of congestion and road closures – especially if you are downtown. Among his activities today, the Veep is giving the closing remarks at the U.S.-China Climate Leaders Summit at around 5 PM. The 2-day conference, which has seen James Cameron and Gov. Jerry Brown in attendance, is being held at the JW Marriott LA Live. After his speech, Biden is staying overnight in L.A. over closer to Beverly Hills – and if you take a look at the road closures announced by the LAPD and the Secret Service, he isn’t exactly staying put.
While Biden hasn’t announced if he is running for President or not, I hear the VP isn’t missing the opportunity while in L.A. to check out the Hollywood ATM that has served President Barack Obama and Hillary so well. Like he did while in NYC last week, Biden looks to be having an informal get together or two with some potential deep pocketed pals during his stay in the Southland.
Flying in from D.C., Biden actually starts his visit to SoCal with an 11 AM speech at the Solar Power International Conference in Anaheim – so if you are planning a Disneyland getaway, you’ve been warned. Biden leaves town early on Thursday for Detroit via LAX.
Here are the road closures, and there are a lot of them, that we have so far from the LAPD:
