Funny Or Die is expanding its content creation operation, announcing this morning that exec Chris Bruss has received a promotion to President of Digital Content, while Gary Sanchez Creative Director Owen Burke has been hired as the company’s first-ever Editor in Chief of Content.
Bruss joined Funny or Die in 2009, serving as Vice President of Branded Entertainment and President of Gifted Youth, Funny Or Die’s commercial production and creative services company. Over his tenure, he has overseen the production of over 400 branded-entertainment campaigns. Burke, meanwhile, ran television for Gary Sanchez, serving as producer on the company’s various projects including Drunk History and Bad Judge, as well as pilots for both cable and network. Burke also served as the Artistic Director for the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in New York and remains a regular performer at the troupe’s Los Angeles branch.
Bruss and Burke will now oversee all digital content creation, production, and strategy for Funny Or Die, including celebrity, topical, and political video and non-video content, branded and partner content, Funny Or Die News, Funny Or Die’s social content, and all content for Funny Or Die’s apps. Bruss will remain President of Gifted Youth along with his new role in the company.
Funny Or Die, launched in April 2007, has a global audience of more than 70 million. The company’s social media division produces content for over 15 platforms and is the #1 comedy brand on both Twitter and Facebook. Funny Or Die’s founders are Gary Sanchez Productions (Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy), and Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Judd Apatow is also a principal partner.
