AfterShock Comics has announced its first wave of new comic book titles, as well as deals with several comics veterans with strong ties to television and film. Among the talent spearheading the new titles: legendary comics writer Garth Ennis, whose classic series Preacher is being turned into a series for AMC; Brian Azzarello, writer behind Vertigo/DC’s 100 Bullets, currently being adapted for film from New Line; and Adam Glass, executive producer of CBS’ Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and CW’s juggernaut series Supernatural.
AfterShock’s first four titles, which will begin to launch on a near-weekly basis in December, will be:
–Replica, from writer Paul Jenkins (Batman: The Dark Knight, Spider-Man, Wolverine: Origin) and artist Andy Clarke (Batman, Judge Dredd); it launches December 1.
–InSeXts, created by writer Marguerite Bennett (Batgirl, Sleepy Hol-low, A-Force) and artist Ariela Kristantina (Wolverines, Deep State); it launches December 9.
–SuperZero, created by writers Amanda Conner (Harley Quinn) and Jimmy Palmiotti (Deadpool, Jonah Hex, Daredevil), and artist Rafael de Latorre; it launches December 16.
–Dreaming Eagles, created by Garth Ennis and Simon Coleby (2000 AD, The Authority); it launches December 30.
Titles from Azzarello and Glass will be announced at a later date, though Glass’ new series is expected to launch in Q1, 2016. Among the other artists and writers who have signed with AfterShock are John Layman (Chew, Detective Comics, Batman Eternal), Szymon Kudranski (Penguin: Pride and Prejudice, Avengers), Sam Kieth (The Maxx, Sandman, Batman), Ray Fawkes (Constantine, Batman Eternal, Mnemnevore), David Hine (Batman, District X, Mutopia), Alberto Ponticelli (Unknown Soldier, Dark Knight) and Ryan Parrott (Batman: Gates of Gotham, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and NBC’s Revolution).
AfterShock launched in April, 2015 with the goal of combining the strenghts of both independent publishers and majors. Its editorial team is headed up by former Marvel exec Mike Marts, and Eisner Award-winning publisher and editor Joe Pruett.
