Paolo Sorrentino’s follow-up to Oscar-winning The Great Beauty got a killer standing ovation in competition in Cannes and was quickly snapped up by Fox Searchlight, which has set a December 4 U.S. bow. The trailer for Youth that dropped today shows what all that French fuss was about: The pic follows Fred (Michael Caine) and Mick (Harvey Keitel) as they vacation in a luxury Swiss Alps lodge. Fred is a retired composer who has no plans to resume his career despite the urging from his daughter Lena (Rachel Weisz), and a request from Queen of England. His best friend Mick, a film director, is determined to complete his screenplay, which may be the last for leading lady Brenda (Jane Fonda).
The drama about the last act of a life is written and directed by Sorrentino, with music by David Lang and cinematography by Luca Bigazzi.
