EXCLUSIVE: Good Universe has optioned rights to the thriller Wrong Move, the adaptation of Jonathan Stone’s bestselling 2014 novel Moving Day that has been adapted by scribe Christopher Kyle. The deal was made with Magic Mike producer Nick Wechsler and Chockstone Pictures, which had optioned rights to the book in 2012. The script is going out to directors now, and we’re told Good Universe has this one on the fast-track.
The book, published by Amazon division Thomas & Mercer, centers on Stanley Peke, a tough World War II survivor who has managed to bury the demons of his past by building a life in America as a loving husband and a successful businessman. But when he and his wife fall victim to a shocking crime, the horrors of his childhood come flooding back and he must summon his original grit and determination to restore the life he made for himself.

Kyle penned Oliver Stone’s Alexander starring Colin Farrell and Kathryn Bigelow’s K-19: The Widowmaker. He also recently adapted Shadow & Bone for DreamWorks and producer David Haymen, and The Leaves at Lionsgate/Summit, and he is writing The Iron King for FX Networks. He is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and attorney James Adams.
Dan Freedman negotiated on behalf of Good Universe, which has its plate full with Neighbors 2 in the works at Universal and the Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring The Night Before, both part of its joint-venture deal with Point Grey Pictures to produce comedies; and the sci-fi romance Departure with David Frankel directing a script by Billy Ray. It also has a slate with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House that includes a Fede Alvarez thriller at Sony and a live-action adaptation of the video game The Last Of Us at Screen Gems.
