EXCLUSIVE: In the wake of the pending exit of The Weinstein Company COO David Glasser, and yesterday’s surprising reveal that Radius heads Tom Quinn and Jason Janego will also leave, Harvey Weinstein is making a series of promotions from within to fill a number of major posts and shore things up. I’m hearing that Francois Martin will be stepping up to become president of Strategic Global Marketing, which is a kind of replacement for marketing head Stephen Bruno, who left to go to Netflix; he will be bolstered in that capacity by Ryan Brasno, who handles creative advertising, with distribution president Erik Lomas taking a guiding hand. Jamie Schwartz will spearhead international marketing.
On the production side, Robert Walak will be President / Managing Director Europe, Production, Acquisitions
and Television; Dan Guando will become head of American productions and acquisitions from New York, and Negeen Yazdi will become head of overseas acquisitions and productions from the London office.
The company is endeavoring to replace Glasser and has three candidates. He has been a very important figure, in keeping this indie operation humming and is helping this transition effort. The company has had a strong year, with films like St. Vincent, Paddington, Woman In Gold and the recent Southpaw, leading into a fall that includes the Cate Blanchett-starrer Carol, Bradley Cooper as a manic master chef in Burnt, and capping off with the Quentin Tarantino-directed The Hateful Eight.
On the TV side, besides the reality shows, Scream has just been renewed and TWC just teamed with ITV for the epic Russian crime series Mafiya, with John Madden directing the pilot and William Nicholson scripting the 20-part series. But Weinstein needs to show the town some stability. While the exact titles are still being determined, these will be the emerging players behind Weinstein as Glasser, Quinn and Janego move on.
