It took 6 seasons but the greatest mystery of ABC Family’s flagship show was laid out there last night- for better or worse. In the better category was how Pretty Little Liars did among viewers and the key demo over the Season 5 summer finale last August – and it was a lot better.
With 3.1 million total viewers and 1.8 million among adults 18-49, last night’s PLL was the top show in all of cable with a 1.4 rating. The 8 PM show was also up 35% in viewers and up 38% in the demo over the August 26 show. Coming off an all time season debut viewership low on June 2, that’s good news and up 30.3% from the Season 6 opener. What is even better news for PLL and ABC Family is that last night’s audience was an 18-month high for the show and the 18-49 demo and 18-34 demo (1.4 million/2.0 rating) was a nearly 2-year high.
With 1,585,973 tweets for Tuesday’s Game Over Charles episode, the social media savvy show scored a fourth most tweeted scripted show in cable TV history. Of course, it should be noted that PLL makes up the top 6 most tweeted scripted shows in cable history with the Now You See Me, Now You Don’t episode of August 27, 2013 in the top spot with 1,892,028 tweets.
Set for a Season 7 thanks to a two-season renewal last year, the I. Marlene King produced show returns for the remaining 10 episodes of its sixth season this winter.
