Jon Stewart’s greatest gastronomic adversary Arby’s bid farewell tonight, because ads on his show cost a whole lot less than tomorrow night’s reported quarter of a million per 30-second spot in the finale.
Arbys has been the butt of countless Stewart digs over his 16 years as host of The Daily Show, describing the food sold there as “like shock and awe for your bowels,” and, “like if your stomach could be punched in the balls.” During the Ebola panic last fall, Stewart told viewers his updates were sponsored by the fast-food chain, adding: “Arby’s: See? A lot of things cause diarrhea.”
More recently, when Stewart announced he was leaving the show, Arbys tweeted: “Jon, feel free to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.”

On Stewart’s penultimate broadcast tonight, Arby’s poked itself in the ribs with a montage of hi most pointed jabs. And then came the tagline, “Not sure why, but we’ll miss you,” before going to dark.
