Emmys: John Ridley & Jill Soloway On Awards Recognition In The Context Of Changing America – Video
Emmy-nominated freshman seriesAmerican Crime—about racial tensions following a small-town murder—and Transparent—about a transgender woman seeking acceptance from her dysfunctional family—have struck a chord, airing during a time marked by such socially transformative events as the shootings by police of unarmed black men, the tragic murder of black worshipers in Charleston, SC, and the headline-grabbing transition of Caitlyn Jenner. The shows’ creators—12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley and Six Feet Under alumna Jill Soloway—met up at Deadline’s Los Angeles studio to engage in a frank and emotional conversation about the social relevance of their art and what the shows and their cultural impact mean to them personally.
Deadline‘s Dominic Patten moderated their conversation. Other credits include producer Preston Northrop and camera operators Sal Castellanos and Armando Aparacio.
