Gkids will release Studio Ghibli’s 1991 feature Only Yesterday early next year in the U.S. for its 25th anniversary. The film centers on 27-year-old office worker who travels to the countryside while reminiscing about her childhood in Tokyo. It was directed by Isao Takahata, who co-founded Studio Ghibli and also helmed 2013’s The Tale Of Princess Kaguya –– one of four Gkids-distributed films that have been nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar since 2012. An English-language version is being produced with cast to include Daisy Ridley, Dev Patel, Ashley Eckstein and Alison Fernandez. The deal was negotiated by Eric Beckman of GKIDS and Studio Ghibli’s Geoffrey Wexler. Gkids has all theatrical, nontheatrical, home video and TV rights in North America.
Isabella Kai Rice is set to play Katherine Heigl’s daughter Lily in the Warner Bros feature Unforgettable, the directorial debut of producer Denise Di Novi. Heigl plays a newly divorced mother whose jealousy over her ex-husband’s new fiancee turns pathological. Geoff Stults, Cheryl Ladd, Simon Kassianides, Whitney Cummings and Robert Wisdom also star. Rice has recurred on Pretty Little Liars and True Blood and next appears in the feature Jem And The Holograms.
