As Fox News chairman/CEO Roger Ailes and GOP front-runner Donald Trump continue to glare through their lorgnettes at each other, over Fox News Channel star Megyn Kelly, that network celebrated its third consecutive week on top of the basic cable rankings.
Probably not coincidentally, FNC’s coverage of the first GOP debate, which aired on August 6 and starred Trump and triggered the fracas between the candidate and the network, was during the first of those three consecutive weeks.
FNC clocked 1.98 million primetime viewers last week, besting AMC’s 1.68 million, USA’s 1.61 million, HGTV’s 1.58 mil and TNT’s 1.5M. Not close behind, cable news network CNN logged 635,000 primetime viewers ages 2+ to rank No. 25 among basic cable nets for the week, and MSNBC was right behind at No. 26 with 634,000.
The week also marks the fifth in the past six weeks in which FNC has topped the weekly basic-cable ranker.
