Disney is developing a film based on its old-school theme park attraction the Jungle Cruise and has tapped Dwayne Johnson to star. John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are penning the script for the pic, the latest in the hit-and-miss business of basing movies on Disneyland rides. Pirates Of The Caribbean? Ultimate hit. The Haunted Mansion? Definite miss — so far (paging Guillermo del Toro). Not to mention the Big Thunder Mountain pilot that ABC toyed with in 2013. Still waiting on an Autopia adaptation to leave that Fast & Furious franchise in its dust.
The Jungle Cruise was among the original attractions when the Anaheim park opened in 1955 and remains a popular stop in Adventureland. Now let’s hope the writers can come up with some better lines than the groan-inducing puns the tour guides spew.
