Self-obsessed and mean-spirited New Yorkers may be horrible in person but they are damn funny on TV — especially when played by Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner. Debuting at midnight tonight on Hulu, Difficult People, as my video review above says, is all about two such terrors and very very funny. You’ll be able to check out the first two episodes of the series executive produced by Amy Poehler early tomorrow with more to come each week until September 16.
Having picked up the streaming rights to Seinfeld earlier this year, Hulu is doubling down on nasty and thoughtless residents of the Big Apple with the addition of Difficult People. And, oh, did I mention Eichner and Klausner play aspiring comedians named Billy and Julie? Yep, the former is possibly the world’s worst waiter, while the latter recaps TV shows with razor blades — without much insight as to how that’s affecting her hopes and dreams of fame and fortune.

With Andrea Martin and Empire regular Gabourey Sidibe also on board, the Klausner-created Difficult People is full of so many sharp elbows it could really be the breakout hit Hulu has lacked so far. And yes, you will feel sorry for the Real Housewives, Eagles’ guitarist Joe Walsh, Comedy Central and James Spader — but you’ll still laugh at how hard they get hit.
