Hulu’s original series Difficult People starring Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner has been picked up for a second season, the streaming service said this morning. The Season 2 order is for 10 episodes. Its a high-profile title for Hulu, with the comedy coming from executive producers Amy Poehler, Dave Becky (Louie), Tony Hernandez of Jax Media and showrunner Scott King. Klausner — creator, star and executive producer — and Eichner both are returning to the Universal Cable Productions-produced comedy.
“We have been big fans of Difficult People from day one and are so happy to have Julie and Billy be part of the Hulu family.” said Craig Erwich, SVP, Head of Content at Hulu. “I cannot wait to see what a whole new season will bring and am pleased to bring more of their hilarious brand of comedy to fans.”
'Difficult People' Review: Amy Poehler-Produced Comedy Easy Win For Hulu
Kluasner and Eichner play friends living in New York City, and their typical, irreverent behavior lands them in some very awkward situations. Klausner and King wrote all episodes of Season 1 and will continue to serve as executive producers for the series.
“I’m the luckiest girl in the world to be able to make more episodes of Difficult People,” said Klausner. “This must be what it feels like to win the lottery, have a fast metabolism or win an Oscar for My Cousin Vinny.”
The pickup comes as Hulu continues to drive forward with original series, with the Jason Katims drama The Way, Jason Reitman’s comedy Casual and the event series 11/22/63 from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and based on Stephen King’s bestselling book all loading up with big-name casts. Hulu is also is behind Season 4 of The Mindy Project after picking it up from Fox.
