The pick-ups ahead of Venice and Toronto are gathering pace. Content Media has acquired international sales rights to Dennis Hauck’s neo-noir detective thriller Too Late, starring John Hawkes (Everest), Crystal Reed (Crazy, Stupid, Love), Dichen Lachman (Neighbors), Natalie Zea (The Following), Jeff Fahey (The Lawnmower Man) and Robert Forster (Jackie Brown).
Described as being in the vein of Pulp Fiction and Short Cuts, Too Late is set in L.A. and unfolds in non-linear fashion as private investigator Mel Sampson (Hawkes) is hired to find out what happened to a missing girl. The deeper he gets in, the more personal the case becomes. Content will screen and introduce the film to international distributors for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival. Too Late had its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

The film is the feature directorial debut for Hauck (Sunday Punch), who also wrote the screenplay and produced the film alongside Alexandra Barreto (Good News, Oklahoma!), John Taylor Feltner (Fall and Winter) and with Matt Miller (Amira & Sam) and Erich Lochner (Amira & Sam) co-producing.
Fortissimo Films also announced it has acquired worldwide sales rights to Larry Yang’s Mountain Cry. The Chinese film will receive its world premiere as the closing film of the Busan International Film Festival in Korea. Mountain Cry is the first of the initial slate of five films to be completed out of the recently announced production partnership between Village Roadshow Pictures Asia Limited and China’s production giant, Hairun Pictures Co., Ltd.
The companies will jointly release the film in China next year, with Village Roadshow Pictures Asia retaining the rights for Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, where it has its own distribution and exhibition affiliates. Fortissimo will commence pre-sales of the film at Venice, where the company will present teaser artwork and a promo reel. Fortissimo is also planning to screen at AFM in November.
