Things did not end up becoming very country strong for ABC last night with the CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night To Rock ((1.2/4). Compiled from the four-day fest in Nashville in June, last night’s three-hour special featured the likes of Kellie Pickler, Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood. Despite that best selling lineup and more, the show fell hard with a 37% drop among adults 18-49 from last year’s airing.
In fact, among the key demo, the 2015 CMA Music Festival was the lowest-rated ever, topping the previous low of 1.4 on September 8, 2008. In overall viewership, the 2015 CMA Music Festival drew 5.19 million in fast national numbers, spared another low but second to 2008’s 4.90 million viewers.
It was the end of the America’s Got Talent (2.1/8) road for many hopefuls last night with the final round of judges’ cuts. Several went forward, most got the ax and all had to deal with ex-judge Piers Morgan, who made a return appearance to hit the buzzer on the NBC competition show. The most-watched (10 million) and highest-rated show of the night by 75% over its closest contenders, AGT was even with its July 28 airing in 18-49s. Even was the buzzword at NBC, with AGT lead-out Hollywood Game Night (1.2/4) also matching its results of last week. In preliminary numbers. both AGT and HGN matched season lows. That could change in final numbers, especially for the commonly adjusted AGT. Overall, NBC won the night with a 1.8/7 rating and 8.12 million viewers.
CBS and Fox only had one original show each last night with Zoo (1.0/3) and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? (0.6/2), respectively. The animal rampager had a 17% bite taken out of it from last week’s result to match a low. The game show was even with its July 28 airing.
The CW was all encores Tuesday.
