Investigation Discovery is expanding its relationship with Al Jazeera America anchor Tony Harris, announcing it has greenlit a documentary special and limited series with the journalist. Both projects will be produced by NBC News’ Peacock Productions.
Behind Closed Doors: Shocking Secrets is a special report on the state of domestic violence in the U.S., set to premiere in October.  Additionally, ID and Harris are once again teaming with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and its founder, Morris Dees to showcase stories from the organization’s case files in the all-new series, And Justice For All, premiering on ID in 2016. Dees’ civil rights organization has tracked hate groups across the country for more than four decades; the org says there are currently nearly 800 active hate groups currently operating in our country.

“I’m particularly proud to announce this project developed with one of my all-time heroes, Morris Dees,” Henry Schleiff, Group President, Discovery Networks told reporters this morning at Summer TV Press Tour 2015. “This guy really is Atticus Finch,” Schleiff said of Dees’ org’s 40-year fight against hate groups – quickly clarifying the reference is to the To Kill a Mocking Bird Finch and not the Finch of the just-released prequel.

Schleiff said the project speaks to his own “nefarious plot” to add more “impactful programming into ID’s traditional entertainment but, candidly, over-the-top programming.” The series is scheduled to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness month and is a look at the unexpected victims of domestic abuse in this country.

For Peacock Productions, Elizabeth Fischer, Knute Walker, and Benjamin Ringe are exec producing; for  Investigation Discovery, Lorna Thomas is executive producer and Sara Kozak is senior vice president of production.
