We’re getting a first look at MTV’s upcoming drama series The Shannara Chronicles, based on Terry Brooks’ fantasy book series. The network also announced during the series’ Comic-Con panel today that the 10-episode series will premiere in January. Production wrapped last month in New Zealand.
Written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, The Shannara Chronicles is set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The story revolves around the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Austin Butler, Poppy Drayton and John Rhys-Davies star.
Gough and Millar are executive producers and showrunners. Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Terry Brooks, Dan Farah and Gene Stein also serve as executive producers. Liebesman directed the first two episodes. MTV is producing with Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films. Check out the first look video above.
